Ronnie O’Sullivan believes he would have won the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award “seven or eight times” if snooker was recognised like golf or tennis. Speaking to promote his exclusive new Eurosport two-hour feature programme, Seventh Heaven, the Rocket revealed his frustration at missing out on the famous SPOTY gong during his illustrious career and said he was arguably Britain's most successful sportsman. O’Sullivan equalled Stephen Hendry’s haul of seven world titles after beating Judd Trump in the Crucible final in May, becoming the oldest player to win snooker’s biggest prize. His run in Sheffield saw him installed as the early favourite for SPOTY 2022, although he has since slipped off top spot following the Lionesses’ historic win at the European Championship on home soil. “If it was taken on your achievements for what you do in the sport, I would have probably won it a few times by now,” O’Sullivan told Eurosport. “So to not even get in the reckoning, I sometimes q...

LIV Golf star shuts down Graeme McDowell's ranking points rant with refreshing answer

Image
LIV Golf star Harold Varner III shut down Graeme McDowell 's Official World Golf Rankings rant, claiming he and his fellow defectors 'knew what they were getting into'. The Saudi-backed series has been embroiled in a saga in regard to ranking points, with LIV still not recognised by the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR). In an attempt to secure ranking points at their recent event in Bangkok and this week's in Jeddah, LIV formed a 'strategic alliance' with the OWGR-recognised MENA Tour, co-sanctioning their events. This proved to be in vain though, as OWGR turned down the request, claiming MENA gave them 'insufficient' time to look into their new application, which included LIV events. Following this, 2010 US Open champion McDowell was left unimpressed, claiming the ranking system was becoming 'irrelevant' and should lose the word 'official' in its name, if LIV players are continued to be snubbed. Referencing newly crowned LIV Golf ch...
